Get to Know: Tarbish

Hi Tarini!

Tell us about your brand and your business model.

Tarbish is a women’s luxury brand that combines bright, patterned Indian textiles with easy, street style silhouettes. We describe ourselves as Vibrant Elegance, Not-So-Basic Luxury.

All of our pieces are fully embroidered/sequined fabrics of the highest quality and produced in limited quantities, only up to 50 are made of each style. All Tarbish pieces are designed in easy silhouettes that fit a variety of bodies and shapes and can easily transition from day to night. Our approach to design is away from the world of “fast fashion” and instead focuses on taking the time to curate small batches of distinct, exclusive garments that are investment pieces.  At the moment Tarbish sells direct to consumers exclusively online on our website, but we are planning on expanding to wholesale in the future.

What drove you to start your own label? And what have you enjoyed the most so far?

I have known that I wanted to design since a young age, but really felt passionate to launch my own label while I took a year off from college to work and intern in the fashion industry in New York City. I had this strong feeling that I could do what so many people were doing, but a bit differently and my own way. This led me to complete an additional degree in fashion design from Parsons and then I launched a month after graduating!

I can truly say I have enjoyed every part of this process. I love everything from the design to production to even crunching the numbers and budgeting. Being in complete control of my own brand and business means so much to me and to be able to do it daily makes it so worth it. I have had such a variety of roles in the fashion industry so where I am, at the moment feels very right. And of course when you see someone wearing your piece, that is definitely the cherry on top!

What are one or two big goals you’re focusing on in the next 6 months?

One of our main goals is increasing our brand awareness and growing our Tarbish Squad. Also, we are continuing to design and develop future collections! We have only just begun and can’t wait to see what the future holds!

Get to Know: Hokum

Hokum is a luxury label full of colour and whimsy with a strong narrative to each collection. We have an omni channel approach, selling online, in store, and to wholesale accounts. It sounds like a traditional approach, but in many ways we are not. My work desk is set up at the back of the shop allowing customers to see the work that goes on behind the scenes.
