Get to Know: Story 81
Tell us about your brand and your business model.
Story 81 is in it’s early stages and growing – we’re celebrating our first birthday in July! We offer vegan and non-vegan women a subtle way to add a stylish finishing touch to their capsule wardrobe while ensuring that it’s cruelty-free. When we see a simple look transformed by one of our bags, I admit, we do get a little kick out of it. A happy dance often takes place!
Our business model is currently direct to consumer through our online store – we love having direct contact with our customers and connecting with them, particularly through our Instagram and our Facebook page.
What drove you to start your own label? And what have you enjoyed the most so far?
I’ve been a vegetarian since birth, as are lots of my family and friends. Growing up, I was always a bit obsessed with handbags – my grandmother would carry it like the Queen of England on the crook of her arm and she always looked so elegant – but we never felt quite at ease buying and using bags that were made of leather. I felt a disconnection there and it always affected my purchasing process – falling in love with a handbag and then realizing it’s made of leather was a major disappointment and usually led to me not buying that bag. So when I started Story 81, I wanted to create quality handbags that made a statement, while ensuring that our handbags catered for vegans, vegetarians, and non-vegans alike.
What are one or two big goals you’re focusing on in the next 6 months?
The first is to develop our website to ensure it’s meeting the needs of our customers. It’s a great start-up site at the moment but (admittedly!) it could definitely do with an update! Secondly, to develop our next collection for launch before Christmas – we have some great ideas up our sleeves!
