Get to Know: robin b.
Tell us about your brand and your business model.
robin b. is a brick and mortar store in RI and an online store. When I started robin b., I wanted to offer the same classic, well-made items I had always loved for my own wardrobe. Little did I know these items were hard to find. When I did find them they were poor quality or super expensive ($350 for a sleeveless turtleneck?). Then our customers started to ask for these items. They wanted a simple sleeveless dress that wouldn’t wrinkle, had great structure, and would double for work and a night out. That classic tee that can be dressed up or down. (I am sure you follow).
I did some research, located a great production house in NJ, and jumped in designing these items myself. You won’t find the latest trend; these items are on-trend, but not trendy. These are the essentials! Those items you “turn to” when you need to be “put together” whether you are in the office, with a client, or at an evening event for work. You might even wear these items on a date night or for girls night out. Designing these items meant I could take out the middleman so these items are affordable (Half the designer prices). Luxury items at affordable prices (and made in the US) are a win/win.
We also carry other brands that I think fit what our customer is looking for. Items that can be worn to work and out at night. We also have vegan handbags, other brands that are made in the US, and impulse items for your favorite girl boss.
What have you enjoyed the most so far?
I have really loved being able to control the process. Taking my drawings and watching the items come to life has been so exciting (I cried when I saw the first line of samples). Also being able to make the changes needed to get the right fit or silhouette is super important. It is great not to have to settle because that is all that is available in the marketplace.
What are one or two big goals you’re focusing on in the next 6 months?
Getting involved in more events that focus on the professional woman. I have found this is one of the most effective ways to get the word out about what robin b. is all about. We are moving the store, so making a big impression in our new location (and making sales goals) is top of the list.
