Get to Know: For Love & Legacy
Tell us about your brand and your business model.
My brand is called For Love & Legacy and I make hand-sculpted, hand-painted belt buckles.
For Love & Legacy is about being who you are and knowing you’re a total badass. It’s about art, craftsmanship, and doing the work. It’s about being built to last and only improving with age.
What drove you to start your own label? And what have you enjoyed the most so far?
Sculpting belt buckles started as a side hobby of mine, but enough people asked to buy them so I decided to try to develop it into a business. I have zero background in fashion, so I’ve enjoyed learning everything I can about the fashion business.
I love the process of creating something from nothing, and seeing the long-term effects of the millions of tiny steps I’ve taken. I enjoy looking back at the end of each quarter on what I’ve learned and how much I’ve grown. I love thinking about and refining my brand vision. And I REALLY love receiving orders, not only because they keep my business afloat, obviously, but because each one feels like a validation that I’m on the right path and I’m bringing something to market that buyers can’t find anywhere else.
What are one or two big goals you’re focusing on in the next 6 months?
To sell $50,000 in revenue, and to be featured in Vogue.

The brand is best described as "painted stories on scarves." They are my original paintings that are digitally printed on silk and cotton scarves. It's our goal to provide a great product and the scarves are printed using organic dyes and have hand rolled edges. We sell directly to consumers via our website, trunk shows, and boutiques.
Hokum is a luxury label full of colour and whimsy with a strong narrative to each collection. We have an omni channel approach, selling online, in store, and to wholesale accounts. It sounds like a traditional approach, but in many ways we are not. My work desk is set up at the back of the shop allowing customers to see the work that goes on behind the scenes.
